More Summer Beads - Different Colors! (Echo Park)

Hi Everyone 

You might have seen my first beads tutorial post here - but I have another post on the Echo Park Blog today using a different Paper Collection - So Happy Together.

This collection had some really wonderful color combinations, making it perfect for a fun summer project for you and/or the kids.

"So Happy Together" Album

This fun and bright and collection was perfect for decorating this barn shaped album. All papers and stickers are from the So Happy Together Collection from Echo Park Paper.

I covered each face of the album in patterned paper and then set to work decorating them!

The album follows our life as we have lived on a couple of different continents!

Paper Bead Tutorial - SUMMER FUN!

Hi Everyone

Here is a fun activity for a Summertime Camp, party or sleepover - a necklace made from paper beads. I created this post for Design Dazzle - so hop on over there and see what other fun things they have in store for you at their Summer Camp!

First, using a sharp knife or scissors, cut your paper to the shapes shown below. I like to cut a template from an old cereal box and then draw multiple images by tracing onto scrapbook paper lightly with a pencil. Then use a knife or scissors to cut out (your kids may be able to do this depending on age - but you DO need to be reasonably accurate).

Using a cocktail stick, wrap the wide end of each strip around tightly and secure using a tiny spot of glue (I used Tombow liquid glue which holds and dries in a couple of seconds).

Keep on rolling using the occasional spot of glue until  you reach the end - and you are done! You can see below several examples of each bead - you don't have to worry at all about them all looking identical - they won't!

 

I then gave my beads coat of Glossy Mod Podge for extra shine and protection - but even without that the beads are pretty solid. Remember - they ARE paper though - and won't really tolerate getting wet!

You can then thread them onto string or elastic - they look really great with some plain acrylic beads separating them - especially in these bright colors. I have used the Paradise Beach Collection from Echo Park Paper to make these - available here at amazon.com or any scrapbook store.

Travel Album

This album was created using the Kaisercraft Camera Album and their June Check-In Collection.

The pages of the album are blank all ready for the recipient to add some pictures and journaling notes from their trip

This collection has a lot of really cool embellishments and you can see the complete Collection on the Kaisercraft website here.

Now onto the really cool parts of this collection - the acetate sheet and acetate shapes.

In the picture above I have layered a cut circle of acetate over the same size circle of paper for added dimension

In this picture (above) I used one of the small acetate pieces over the paper to form a frame for the stickers. They make a great, easy to use alternative to stamps too!

Special Wedding Anniversary Card

I made this card for an elderly gentleman I have known for a couple of years. He and his wife just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and they have a wonderful story.

I created the "swing" style card using a file from Lori Whitlock and I just love how these papers are so complimentary.

This card looks great from the front and when pulled apart reveals a much larger sentiment.

The stickers are textured just like the paper and match perfectly

The wooden accent was cut from a wooden flourish from Kaisercraft. I painted it white and then embossed with a woodgrain stamp and white embossing powder.

Easy Notebook
To create this notebook I cut some copier paper into 10" x 8" strips and folded them in half to create pages 5" x 4"  
 

I then wrapped the patterned paper round the folded sheets, punched holes in the center and using a thick needle, threaded some bakers twine for a super simple binding.

Simple Card

This card was also cut using my Cameo from this file and really could not be simpler. The sentiment says is all and cards like this are great to make before you pack away a collection so you can always have one on hand.
