Did you know this project now has its own website – with heaps of additional information.
Note: If you would like to link to, feature or re-publish this project – please see here.
Below you will find the tutorial showing how to make the cards. On the website you can also find a complete supply list and all the information on purchasing a template to create the labels.
- Find some playing cards! These fabulous cards from Ellusionist shown here are great as they have a pre-aged Vintage look.
- Scuff them up with some sandpaper to give them a used feel as well as a used look
- Create a template with one of the spare cards (for example one of the Jokers)
- Punch two holes in each cards using the template as a guide
- Create your reasons labels to attach to the cards – detailed
information below. Use another Joker card to create the front cover. - Using double sided tape and/or glue – attach the inserts to the
cards. Using glue will take longer to dry and will stiffen the cards up
adding more dimension. - Create all 52 of your reasons cards and let the glue dry
- Thread onto book rings
NOTE: I have created a FAQ page here with additional information on products used and where to buy them or you can check out the dedicated website here.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know we featured you on WhipperBerry today. Come grab a featured button if you like!
Wow!! I have at least a dozen card decks sitting around not being used. This is perfect. Following you from The Girl Creative link party. Please check out my blog when you can http://diyhshp.blogspot.com
First I want to thank you for posting on my blog and bringing to my attention that someone put my project on her blog. I don't know if I should be flattered or annoyed! But on the good side, it has taken me to your blog and I love this project. I am currently working on a Las Vegas album made out of a large deck of cards. Check back to my blog next week to see my finished project. Again, thanks for contacting me!
This is so gorgeous and such a great idea! Although I might find it a stretch to come up 52 nice things to say to my husband as well! Happy Vday!!
This is fabulous!! I've never seen ths idea before and I love it! I'll have to remember it for next year or maybe for our anniversary!
Hi – I hopped over from Embellishing Life's link, and am now your 110th follower! This is a very cute idea. I bought several deck of cards at Michael's for a buck each, and I might just need to take them out of the closet! Thanks!

This is a beautiful idea! Thanks for stopping by my little blog! Have a happy day!
I've seen deck of card gifts similar to this, but I LOVE how you held the cards together. Absolutely darling!!!1
Great project. I've been thinking about using playing cards as sort of date coupons, but I was having trouble thinking about how to put them together. Love your idea. Come link up sometime at Ninth Street Notions.
this is SO adorable!! 🙂 Rebecca
Absolutely LOVE this! I have a perfect old deck of cards just waiting to be spruced up!
Saw this on Pinterest today! Love it 🙂

What a beautiful project! I really think I must have a go at making this. just need to find a great pack of vintage cards 🙂 thanks for sharing this FAB project 🙂
I totally love this idea – I am really sucky at "crafting" so I am not quite your target market, but this is brilliant.
I am sure I can do this — or find someone I can pay to do this.
I am going to save this and do a "why you are a great dad" for next Father's Day – I am always desperate to find great gifts for my husband, as we are 17 years in, and I have exhausted the golf/cycling/poker/stripper range of gifts …..
this is a gorgeous collection of feelings 🙂 it looks so sleek and shiny too x
pinning this.
Totally awesome project.
What an awesome idea…love love love this!!!!
hugs
Brenda
I just discovered your lovely idea at Pinterest ! Great !
♥ from Munich, BunTine
it's a great idea, thanks for posting, and to speed mine along, I would ask if you can post Your list of 52 "REAsONS" – as you said, it's not easy coming up with them, and seeing yours might help fleshing out my own. Thank you.
Hi there – glad you like my project. I don't actually have the list I used available but you can google for lists. Here is one to get you started – http://optimystique.net/90reasons/
absolutely adore this project!
can't wait to check out more of your posts!
love your newest follower,
Lindsay
Love this!
Please tell…what size font were you able to use? I will have to outsource to print, so any information would be very helpful.
Thanks!!!
Definitely giving this a go. I've started my list ahead of time knowing I needed some time to get creative with my 52 reasons. This will be a fun little extra gift for my fiancé on our wedding day. Can't wait. 🙂
Really like this. I am trying to make it this week for an anniv present this weekend. Were the cards purchased with an antique look? that is the best part, i think…also, what size book rings did you end up using? i used phot paper to print out my 52 things (like you) and the stack looks LARGE — thks
Hi – these are the cards I used http://www.amazon.com/Bicycle-Vintage-Playing-Cards-Ellusionist/dp/B001OVP1B2
I find you usually need smaller rings than you think. I used Kaisercraft rings which are 35mm.
Hope this helps 🙂
fabulous idea, love it!! can't wait to do one for my hubby 🙂
This is so cool! So beautiful both physically and sentimentally.
This is really great. Do you still make them for people? If so can you email me with a price? Thanks
I love so many of your ideas! This is so adorable and fun!
Thank you for sharing this. I found it via Pinterest and have just made my own version here: http://insertcreativityhereuk.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-version-of-52-reasons-i-love-you.html
for my hubbys 30th birthday gift. It was a lovely project to do and i've recommended your tutorial on it. Much appreciated!
I just wanted to let you know I included this in my 2011 Ultimate DIY Gift Guide (101 tutorials/recipes)! 🙂 http://danimariedesigns.blogspot.com/2011/10/2011-ultimate-diy-gift-guide.html
Love this! I actually had no problem coming up with my 52 reasons why….and had to go back and edit! Just lucky I guess 😉
But the coolest thing I discovered is that there are exactly 52 days between Christmas and Valentine's Day…meaning I'll give him one card a day starting on Christmas, ending with the last on Valentine's Day! I'm super excited!
Thanks for the share!
Brilliant! I will definitely be doing this!
I get found the more useful and impressive information's about the designs in here's …..Hope to see some more designs…..

I'm actually surprised how many people say they're going to have a hard time coming up with 52 things they love about their spouse. This is such a great idea because it gives you the chance to really think about the things you love about the person you're spending your life with. I found it easy to come up with 52 things. 🙂
VERY creative idea and I appreciate it! I did mine on Star Wars playing cards (from Think Geek) because my husband loves Star Wars. I'm putting it in his stocking. Hee hee… 🙂
This is so cute. I want to make a set for my husband for Christmas. How long would you say it took? Just making it – not coming up with ideas 🙂
Hi JoAnna – I would say 3 hours or so – tops!
love this and I am actually going to make one of these for my husband and stick it in his bag before he deploys so he can find it on his own 🙂
I really love your version of this project, and am making a similar project for my husband for Christmas. Just because technology is not my forte, could you tell me how you used powerpoint to make the labels? Thanks!
I took the idea and created a "young version" for my 3 yr old niece with photos on the cards. 52 people that love you….
Thank you very very much for this idea! It's the BF & I 1 year so I thought of 52 weeks of a year, this would be a GREAT idea =)
I am the worlds best copier (with a tutorial). Thank you so much for the great idea. Now I just need a tutorial on the 52 things I like :I.
P.S. It took me forever to figure out the photo shop. Maybe you could show how you did that part for us not-so-computer savy folks.
great idea!!!
This is so cute! My boyfriend will love it!

Please help! I need the dimensions to print. I saved the pre-made files but they are printing gigantic on the full page. I edited them in photoshop. Do I save them as somehing else? What do I do?
Sorry you are having problems – but you need to contact the website that provided the template / pre-made files!
If it helps – the dimensions of the cards I printed my reasons onto are 6cm x 3 cm
I love yours so much! When I saw this on pinterest I knew I had to make a set for my fiance. I don't have a printer so I had to be creative with some old printer paper that was lying around. But I have to ask, how did you get them to have the brown tone to them? That's one of my favorite things about your set.
I was wandering through Pinterest while I came across this ( great!) project…which really comes in handy since I have found some spare vintage cards while walking the dog this afternoon…serendipity 🙂 Thanx for sharing
Love this. I too am wondering how you got the photo paper to look vintage. and also, how'd you get the perfectly rounded corners. I am just not that good with scissors. Thanks in advance. I'm going to make this for my parents, best friend and my boyfriend!
Hi Dana
The cards were a vintage themed set – see here – http://www.amazon.com/Bicycle-Vintage-Playing-Cards-Ellusionist/dp/B001OVP1B2
The exact digital files I used for the photo printouts can be seen by following the link in the post.
I am not sure what you mean by rounding the corners as the base for this was an actual set of cards, but you can get rounded corners very easily on paper by using a corner rounder such as the ones seen here – http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=corner+rounder&x=0&y=0
Any stationary or craft store should have a couple to choose from.
Please let me know if you have any more questions – Lowri 🙂
Love this idea!!
such a sweet idea! It's so original! Would you link up to my party if you have time? I'd love if you shared it with my readers too!

I love this!!! What a great idea!!! The way you put it together is so vintage and sweet.
I'm a new Follower – sent over from the link party at Tatertots & Jello!
Cheers to 2012!

For the hole punching, if you have a 3-hole puncher, you can move where the part that punches the holes and then lock them in place. Hard to describe but if you get out your 3-hole puncher you will figure it out
What does it say that I came up with 52 things I love about my husband in less than an hour? Well, being married to my best friend for 27+ years sure helped in that department! This is such a great idea to let my man know how much I love him and why. Thank-you Thank-you!
Thanks so much for the inspiration! I am making this for my husband and my anniversary next week and I just had one question – how did you distress/ink the glossy cards?
Nevermind! I see they were the vintage cards. Well, I am going to have to get creative with the cards I have! I've not been able to get ink to stick!
This is so fun!
Absolutely delightful and I can't wait to make one for the man I love…
How did you set your template up in powerpoint? I saw the post where you said it 6cm x3cm, did you make a table on the page?
Thank you for this amazing gift idea! Hope you don't mind, I've shared on today's blog post! http://lanettascreations.blogspot.com/2012/01/gather-christmas-ideas-now.html
This is great! Like yours better than the template you used :).
Could you explain the glue to me? Did you cover the cards like decoupage? And if so, did you cover the photos "reason" cards as well? They look like they may be laminated in the pictures.
Thank you so much 🙂

I am having trouble making this. How do you what size the paper should be, so it does not cover the card?

Thank You So much!! Your Great!
Thanks for the inspiration! Ijumped in deep after I saw this on pinerest. I'm making them with doodles and quotes for each of my sister-in-laws, daughter & granddaughter. The US postal service is selling me lots of stamps. I'm mailing 1 card each person every monday this yearOn Jan 1st I dropped in the mail the cover card, the binding rings, and a nopte that read more to come. I sure hope they love the little book they will have on new yaears eve 2012. Crafty1csd
I LOVE these little booklets. I'm going to have my granddaughter make a set for her mommy for Valentine's day….she is 9…and has already started sanding the deck of cards to make them look vintage. This will be a very fun craft!
way way way cool! thanks for the fun idea!
I love these cards! I need this! 🙂
I wanna try this! great idea and well executed!
That is such a great Idea I love it
How adorable! Thank you for your inspiration. Me, as a "not so crafty but I can copy" crafter, I need all the help I can get.
How many butts do I have to kiss to win?! I love this idea! I figured if I spelled my fiances names one letter on each card that would make up for most of it. Keep on craftin'!
So in love with this!!
So in love with this!!
This is an awesome idea. My boyfriend is a poker player and this will be a perfect gift for him! I'd love to win it, but of course I'll try my hand at making it if not! 🙂
Hey! I really really love this idea! I don't have a printer at my disposal, so I've been handwriting both on the cards and on paper, which is working out alright. Also, it is rather hard to think of 52 things (hehehe), so I started cutting stuff from old magazines and glue sticking them to make collage cards as well (for instance, my boyfriend is a ginger, and I found a headline from Glamour UK that says I Get A Lot of Ginger Love. Took up one whole card ;)). I've put them in suit patterns, so every face card is a collage card.
Thanks so much for the inspiration! I'm having so much fun doing it, and I know he's going to adore it, the softie. It is work intensive, but it speaks volumes over the usual V-Day stuff.
Hey, I am so glad I found your blog! I love it and everything you have done. I was going to make a chipboard album but our only scrapbook store here has bare shelves. I love love the deck of cards, so I will making one of these this year. Thanks so much for all the inspiration. I'm sure I will be frequenting your pages as I am getting married in December. Thanks again, and thanks for the giveaway! Kim Proud…lynsgal@hotmail.com
I just fond these on pinterest. How fun would it be to do them for kids and use like old maid or go fish cards?

I know you used to red from the snorkel collection, but what did you use for the white?
I used the cream from the same collection. The Boardwalk and Umbrella papers.
Hope that helps 🙂
Such a cute idea, this will be my Valentine's gift to my Hubby & I was thinking the same thing about coming up with 52 things I love! 🙂
Not that I don't, but that's a lot!
LOVE THIS!! I am going to make it for my best friend for valentines day! SHe LOVES to play card so this is a perfect gift for her! THANKS FOR SHARING! 🙂
Lowri,
Thank you for such a wonderful tutorial & sharing your idea. You are so talented! I have never been able to do something like this and mine is almost complete! I have made all my reasons on powerpoint, however each reason is on its own slide (so I have 52 slides) how do I get them to print multiple slides (18 per page as you noted) and keep them true to size?
The problem I'm running into is getting multiple per page but they are shrunk. Any thoughts?
Hi there – take a look at my full tutorial here – I get the feeling you will be doing a bit of cutting and pasting though!!
http://papervinenz.blogspot.com/2012/01/52-reasons-i-love-you-cards-tutorial.html
Will send you an email too 🙂
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that this post was featured in my 2012 Valentine's Day Guide! Seen here: http://www.singingthroughtherain.net/2012/01/2012-valentines-day-guide.html

This blog is great source of information which is very useful for me. Thank you very much.
BEST LOVE QUOTES FOR KIDS.
i love this idea, so much, hope i do not forget till i find a men 😉
while using power point, how do i changed the shape of the image to a rounded rectangle?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS IDEA! I made it for my Fiance's Valentine gift this year and it turned out great! I had a hard time finding the rings so instead I used black rawhide and it gave it a great vintage look as well 🙂 Thank you for your inspiration!
I found this by googling for V-Day ideas and thought it sounded very cool. First step, coming up with 52 nice things about my friend, was surprisingly easy!
I had a practically brand new deck of cards to use. I used the font you suggested, very nice! I put together a single-card insert graphic in Photoshop, repeated it and laid them out for 8×10 photo prints and typed in my 52 (plus 2x "[my friend's name] Is A Joker", just for fun! 'cuz she is…) Verbiage and the border are red (#cc0000, if you're into Photoshop or other graphics software…)
Sent them over to Walgreen's to print, picked them up, cut them apart and glued them on with contact cement. I made a cutout mask from a cracker box to spread the contact cement only in the centers of the cards. With the contact cement, I did not have to sand off the shiny finish to make it adhere. They are stuck very securely!
I'm very happy with how it all turned out. Thank you so much!!
Can anyone explain to me how to get one slie with the 18 boxes on it in Pwerpoint?
You should be able to by following the instructions on the tutorial – here is the relevant part
In PowerPoint I inserted one of the jpegs from the downloaded digital paper collection onto a slide and then cropped it to 6x4cm.
I repeated this for the inside rectangle which is 5.3×3.3cm using the cream digital paper, changed the shape of the image to a rounded rectangle and then just typed a text box on top.
Copy and paste for additional cards and a cover card – you should get 18 per page.
PLEASE NOTE – YOU ARE NOT CREATING 18 SLIDES, YOU ARE CREATING ONE SLIDE WITH 18 BOXES ON IT!
Does that help?
I didnt download the digital paper collection though.. Im just using plain powerpoint. I didnt buy/download anything.
Then just create 18 rectangle shapes that size per slide by creating one and then copying and pasting.
If you need help doing that – try the PowerPoint Help function – it's really good..
What a unique idea. This would be great for a guy, it's romantic but masculine! Simply wonderful!
What a unique idea. This would be great for a guy, it's romantic but masculine! Simply wonderful!
I am doing this for Valentine's day for my boyfriend…I cut the pieces of paper by hand and used a wrapping paper scissors that gave a cool jagged edge to it and I am writing on them by hand! Thank you for this cool idea, he is going to love it!
this was such a great idea!!! what size book rings did you use?
Hi – you can see all the exact products I used on this page here – http://papervinenz.blogspot.co.nz/p/cards-faq.html
What size font did you use to type in the boxes?? I am creating them in PowerPoint now, but they seem so small…like the font may not look good because it'll be so small. But yours look good…so what size of that font did you use??
The size of the font depends on the reason and how many words are in it. The numbers are 28 point.
Hope that helps!
Awesome idea!!!
I found your idea on pinterest. I created this project as a gift for my husband as a birthday gift, and used cards we got in Vegas from our anniversary trip. It was a BIG hit! I titled the front " a pack of whys". Thanks for the wonderful idea! <3
I found this on Pintrest. I wanted to start working on the reasons now. I am going to make it for my boyfriend for our one year (which is 3 months away). But this way I have time to think about what I really want to say. It is a great idea and I hope he loves it when he gets it.
Found this on pinterest. I am going to share it with my son for his girlfriend "reasons I like you" instead. I was thinking that he might be able to use those name stickers for meetings and use a rub on brown I've seen for scrap booking or even watered down acrylic to antique the stickers? Then handwritten notes- I would rather someone do it by hand . I love how each person has their own handwriting and style. Thank you for sharing this! (I might even do it for hubby for our 25th this fall!)
Great ideas Anna – just remember that the surface of the cards are usually quite slick – so test a apare one out to make sure the ink dries and the labels stick before you do your whole pack. I found that using sandpaper to rough up the surface a little really helps with that! Lowri
Hi there! I was wondering if I could purchase the cosmo cricket template from you? I saw that you had put in the tutorial that it would soon be available for download and I didn't see where to get it… Am I missing it?? Thank you in advance! I absolutely love this idea and can't wait to make it for my husband's birthday.
Hi JC Rowe
I am hoping to have the template available in the next 48 hours (sorry to post publicly but I can't reply through blogger)
If you need it before then – please email me at lowri.mcnabb@gmail.com 😀
NICE!! I love it!!

really its nice
I'll do it surely… innovative idea.. but so romantic one
really its nice
Thanx for this lovely idea! I surprised my husband yesterday, because we are married for thirty years…he likes it very much!! 🙂
Wow! Mine turned out awesome! I wanted to see if I could age the cards myself, and I have to say they turned out great! I held them over a pot when it was boiling some potatoes and the steam crinkled them sort of, I then dipped them in lemon juice and put them in the oven on 350 degrees until they turned brown and it was so cool! They look just like these if not better! I then added my own labels but instead of buying the template I went to word and made some cells with red borders and put my reasons in them! They look so cool! Very proud! My boyfriend should love them!!
Am in the process of making this for my hubby of 40 years, for Valentine's Day instead of the usual store bought card. LOVE this idea! Can't wait to see his reaction when he reads it.
This is soo beautiful and crafty! I think aside from personalized wedding anniversary cards, this is second best to give to your husband on your wedding anniversary. Thanks for sharing inspiration.
Hugs xxx
