Baby Book Ideas (Crate Paper)

Hi Everyone I first showed this book last year, but instead of sending it to my sister to complete – I filled it in for her –  knowing only too well that time can be pretty short when you have a new baby in the house! Sorry I can’t show you any detailed pictures of the inside – but I hope you understand it’s not my baby to share! I used a Maya Road 5×7 tabbed book as a base and the Crate Paper Little Sprout and Lillian Collections to decorate. I have used Cosmo Cricket’s Tiny Type Number Stickers for the tabs – and I have to say they are the first transparent stickers I have used which virtually disappear on the paper – FABULOUS! These collections are a couple of years old and I picked them us super cheap – but the patterns are timeless and absolutely gorgeous. Please email me with any questions or comments. Lowri 🙂 I am linking this project up to these websites here.

New Twists on Old Ideas…

Hi Everyone A couple more Sassafras Lass ideas today. Here I have taken 2 previous ideas of mine and just given them a new purpose! Ruffle Flower Invitations These are fun to make and I am guessing would be a unique idea – especially amongst your non-crafty friends. Instead of giving out a flat invitation – why not think 3D!  Your invite is sure to be a hit and what’s more – it will probably ensure that none of your guests forget the date..  It goes without saying that this idea can be adapted to any occasion and you can see my tutorial on how to make the flowers here. I have used the Indie Girl Collection from Sassafras Lass – it has some lovely printed paper and I have just printed onto the patterned paper and then used Spellbinders to cut and emboss the scalloped circles. Lachlan Memory Book OK – so this is just ANOTHER example of my folded mini – but I just love this technique and the 4″x3″ book that is produced is so perfect and small for slipping into a purse..   This one has some fun pictures of my son and all the things he […]

Simple Gift Album Idea

Hi Everyone – just a quick post to show you another super simple album! This uses quite a bit of patterned paper BUT at a time when so many companies are coming out with fantastic new releases (check out this link to see them all) it’s nice to be able to use some up some older collections (papers and all the half used embellishments!) without feeling guilty!  For this first book I have used my leftovers from the Paper Doll Collection by Crate Paper The idea of this album is that the recipient can add photos, bits and pieces of memorabilia etc – it’s a very casual concept!  There are spots for writing, journalling etc. This one was for a friends daughter who is just turning three – it will be heaps of fun for them to add to. I have made a couple of these before using up leftovers from collections – and it’s quite a cathartic process knowing you are using great materials for a gift – and not feeling guilty about using up all the best embellishments from a kit! Heaps of fun coming up over the next few weeks on the Artfull Crafts blog so please […]

Baby $2 Altered Magnetic Frame PLUS Tutorial

Hi Everyone Another really easy and economical idea today – and one you can probably do RIGHT NOW if you hunt around on your fridge! Not IN your fridge you understand – ON your fridge! I have a tutorial at the end so you can see how I made these – they are really quick and easy. I have made this gorgeous little magnetic photo frame for my sister with the same Cosmo Cricket Earth Love collection – with the background paper from Crate Paper. I have just put the patterned paper inside for the photo, but she will be able to put a little pic of her newborn in it and slap it anywhere metal! I have used the Earth Love rub-ons for the decoration as they are so soft and subtle. They were very easy to apply over the mod-podge (see tutorial below) TUTORIAL One thing to mention that I have not covered n the steps below – if your frame has a very shiny surface, rough it up before the first step with some sandpaper to take the shine off and let the mod-podge stick better. Even better – just see if you can peel the top […]

Baby Altered $2 Photo Album

Hi Everyone A really simple idea to share today – but a practical and fun gift with a really personal touch. I have again mainly used the Earth Love collection from Cosmo Cricket- but also some Crate Paper Little Sprout and Lillian because the colours matched so perfectly.. Here’s how I did it! Pick up a cheap photo album – making sure that the inside covers are easily removable. These ones just slid right out.. Next, simply remove the card inserts front and back, measure accurately and manufacture a work of art to suit the purpose of the gift you are giving! It really couldn;t be simpler.  You could even just spend 5 mins cutting paper to size and simply use Thickers with a die-cut to spell someones name – SUPER EASY! I made this one for my sister’s partner – it has a bit more of a manly feel! This is such a lovely, personal gift – and of course you could fill it with photos for the recipient to make it extra special..  I left mine blank so my sister can fill it with wonderful pics of her new arrival.. Stay tuned for the final day tomorrow – […]

Baby Cards – Go Digital with Cosmo Cricket

Hi Everyone –  I am very excited today as I was featured for the first time on the Crate Paper Blog. Read to the end to find out more… CARDS The “Baby” item I am sharing today – is some cards! Hmmm – cards – that’s pretty simple you might be thinking BUT Cosmo Cricket have started to release some of their older collections digitally, meaning that for the price of 3 pieces of paper – you can have ALL the papers in electronic format – forever! Here I have created the card digitally and just printed it onto photo paper before mounting onto a simple card base. Once you have created the design ( I am a bit of a computer hack and just used powerpoint!) you can print off, trim and adhere these at an astonishing rate! As well as the papers, Cosmo Cricket also release all the other graphic elements on a transparent background – such the the Elements pages, Alphas, Chipboard etc etc.  Some of the collections are over 200 files for about $15 They are available from jessicasprague.com, so go take a look. Of course – you can use your “real” embellishments to set the […]

Diary for 2011 plus “New” Paper Issues Challenge!

Hi Everyone – another project to share today.  This time I have taken the Kaisercraft 2011 Diary (available here from Artfull Crafts) and used Crate Paper’s Brook Collection for the decoration. I have created a “bookmark” using some of the patterned paper with some double sided adhesive chipboard in the middle for added strength. Like most of the Kaisercraft BTP Projects I complete – I have sanded the edges and painted before covering in a base layer of paper. I then cut around with a very sharp knife and lightly sand the paper along the edges for a neat finish. A few of the beautiful Paper Clips from Basic Grey’s Origins Collection match perfectly as page markers Don’t forget to check out the new Paper Issues challenge – where you can link up your projects. The theme for the next three weeks is “New” – and anything goes. Take a look at http://paperissues.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-challenge.html

Christmas Music CD’s

Hi Everyone – last week on the Artfull Crafts blog the theme was Stocking Stuffers and Scraps. You can see my complete post here and be sure to take a look at what the other ladies have come up with too! Crate Paper “Snow Day” CD OK – so who doesn’t love Christmas Music!?  Also – who doesn’t love this fabulous Snow Day Collection from Crate Paper. It has the most gorgeous colours and like all the Crate Paper products – they are of the highest quality. I have used the papers and additional elements to create this CD for my sister in the UK. I have decorated a plain tin for the CD using papers, border and phrase stickers and die-cut elements from the Snow Day Collection.    I have printed a playlist for the inside cover and I made a folded paper holder for the CD The fabric brads are the perfect attachment for lifting the CD out, not to mention they are just gorgeous!   I also just a got a new printer which prints directly onto CD’s so I was desperate to give that a whirl too. I was a bit naughty and just copied and pasted an image of the Crate […]

Folded Photo Wallet – Crate Paper ‘Restoration’

Hi there – This week on the Artfull Crafts Blog the theme is Stocking Stuffers and Scraps. I have heaps of bits and pieces to post – but will restrict to one day at a time! I made this photo wallet for my MIL this week as she spent some unexpected time in hospital. It’s so simple and is slim-line enough to fit easily into a bag, purse or wallet. It measures 10cm x 7cm and has a magnetic snap closure (from Basic Grey). It almost looks like a little purse! I have used one of my favourite ranges from the last year (well, from all time really) Restoration from Crate Paper. The colours in this range are gorgeous. I have seen lots of heavily distressed projects using this range, but that’s not really my style, so I wanted to show it can be used for a “clean lines” project too. Needed to add the paper strip to hide the second magnet I needed for strength! These colours are just so stunning. Sepia photos were a great match! The album opens up to reveal fold out flaps containing more photos. It’s amazing how slim the wallet stays […]
