Got Kids? Make your own Dinosaur Fossils!

Hi Everyone  I love this project – I do this every so often for my kids and they just always think it is so much fun!  It involves making your own dinosaur “fossils” with small toys and Plaster of Paris Mix up the Plaster of Paris according to instructions Place your mold onto a solid surface Pour a little of the plaster mix into the mold Add your mini dinosaur into the mix Top up with plaster and leave to harden as per instructions Give your little one a few tools and let them get excavating! To make this an economical project I bought a HUGE 20kg bag of Plaster of Paris from my local builders merchant for about $20 – which was a great buy seeing as it was $13 for 500g at the craft store… You can of course use anything as a mold (yogurt pots, ice cream containers) and below you can see a series of pictures showing how you can make a really big one in your sandpit! Here is how I made a BIG fossil in the sandpit which took the kids days to excavate!   Dig a hole in the sandpit Pour in your […]

Cosmo Cricket Mini Album & Printing onto Canvas

Hi Everyone I am excited about this project as it was the first one in a while I did purely for fun and – I did it purely for me! It is my entry to the latest Cosmo Cricket Challenge and I am really pleased with how it has turned out. This challenge had a lot of requirements (in blue)and I think I have covered them all! Create your own ‘die-cut’ background: whether this is hand-cut, or die-cut with a machine, your background paper has to be a custom made background! I created this album from scratch using my Spellbinders Christmas Tree dies, double sided sticky chipboard and papers from Cosmo Cricket’s Social Club collection. Your layout must include 3 pictures, any size you wish I have incorporated 3 full page pictures (more about those later) and 3 smaller pictures (also cut with Spellbinders) into the album I want to see at least one paper punch/decorative scissor used Tad tricky this one – but I have have used my maple leaf punch to add some dimension and a splash of color to my pages You must include fabric of some sort on your page đŸ˜€ Fabric is always so fun to […]

Cosmo Combo – Unique Table Setting!

Hi Everyone – I am excited to share my projects today as they are a good example of how to combine digital and physical paper collections. Custom Table Linen  Following on from Wednesdays custom t-shirts, I thought it would be fun to make some unique linen pieces for a special get-together. I simply picked up 4 plain napkins for $2 at the Warehouse, printed my design onto t-shirt transfer paper, busted out my iron again and voila – personal table linen! Invitation, Menu and Placecards These items were made using the Early Bird digital collection for the wording – which I then attached to an actual piece of patterned paper and decorated using chipboard pieces for dimension. I could have done it all digitally but I like combining the two for impact. Wine Glass Markers OK – so maybe you don’t need these for a dinner for 2 BUT these chipboard buttons make great wine glass markers. For your next party – how about gathering up all those chipboard pieces kicking around the bottom of your drawer and make some unique glass markers – saves on washing up too! Here are some more detailed pictures.. Hope you have enjoyed these […]

A Special Project – 70th Birthday Album

Hi Everyone – This project has been on my “started but MUST finish” list for about 2 months and I finally got around to it! It’s an album for my Father-in-Law – he turned 70 in March and I love him to bits! The front of the album has a Kaisercraft Wooden Flourish (Elm Tree) and elements from the Secret Bird Society collection including a journal tag I printed onto. I applied some white ink to the flourish and then stamped over with a text stamp to try and get a whole family, story, nature feel! I have used 2 of my favorite Kaisercraft collections from last year in this album – Up, Up and Away and Secret Bird Society. Both collections had a lot of lovely detail in their papers and their soft muted colors were a perfect match.  Rob has spent his whole life outdoors and the Secret Bird Society collection offered a subtle and classic option for this album. I was very kindly lent some of his old photo albums and I scanned in the photos I wanted to use. I decided to make all the pictures black and white – even the modern ones that were […]

Got Kids? Got Crayons?

Hi Everyone Slight departure from the papercrafting here but I wanted to start sharing some of the kids crafty things I have been doing. My kids-crafting ideas are more about fun things you can make and give to your kids to play with (therefore creating more time for yourself for your own crafty stuff) than they are about doing crafty things with your kids! Of COURSE it depends on age – and mine are all pre-schoolers so attempting anything crafty with 3 of them is usually quite a mess! Recycling Crayons Gather all your old and yukky crayons – peel off the paper (yep – i know you spend ages trying to tell your kids NOT to do that!) Sort into colours in order to take gratuitous colour photo Break up crayons and put into silicon moulds. I think this was an ice-cube tray (butterfly ice cubes – really?) Put into oven on really low heat (maybe 80 degrees Celsius?) Wait (be patient – lots) as the crayons will eventually melt. Let them cool and then press out of moulds.  As you can see from picture 4 – some of the crayons (especially the really cheap ones!) break down into […]

Folded Paper Mini’s PLUS Tutorial

Hi Everyone I have had a few e-mails and comments asking how I created the folded paper mini books I featured last week so I have created a quick tutorial on how they are put together. It was my turn to blog today at Artfull Crafts and I created a couple of these books in a 4″x4″ size, one using one of my faves from Kaisercraft last year – Lush and one using using the Sassafrass Lass “Indie Girl” collection. Kaisercraft “Lush” Love Book Here I have made the book using the Kaisercraft Lush collection – one of my faves from last year.  Goes to show that Valentines and Love themes don’t always have to be pink! The colors in this collection are stunning. I have used some of the chipboard pieces, journal tags and rub-ons (all by Kaisercraft) to complete the decoration on the front. Sassafrass Lass “Indie Girl” Love Book  I am new to the Sassafrass Lass products and I have to say some of these papers and embellishments in the Sassafrass Indie Girl line are really lovely. Each piece of paper comes with an extra 12 inch border, die cut strip that you can use as a […]
